Warehouse Solutions Analyst
BLUE YONDER WMS SOLUTIONS ANALYST CERTIFICATION
Created by Hassan Terry
Role: Solutions Analyst
Platform: Blue Yonder Warehouse Management System (WMS)
RF Device: Android Velocity RF Scanner
Duration: 8 Weeks
Training Model: 2 Weeks Inbound + 2 Weeks Inventory + 4 Weeks Outbound
Certification Level: Blue Yonder WMS Solutions Analyst — Superuser / SME
COURSE OVERVIEW
Course Purpose
This eight-week certification program prepares a Solutions Analyst to operate as the bridge between:
- Warehouse Operations
- Blue Yonder WMS
- Blue Yonder WCS
- Android Velocity RF devices
- SAP/JDA planning processes
- Automation and material-handling equipment
- IT infrastructure
- Customers
- Vendors
- Reporting and analytics
- Project management
- Software development lifecycle (SDLC)
The Solutions Analyst must understand why the system behaves the way it does, how warehouse users execute the process, how data moves through the system, how to diagnose failures, and how to determine whether a problem is operational, configuration-related, integration-related, hardware-related, or a software defect.
CERTIFICATION OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Navigate Blue Yonder WMS as a warehouse Superuser.
- Execute inbound, inventory and outbound processes.
- Operate and troubleshoot Android Velocity RF workflows.
- Understand LPN-based inventory execution.
- Research inventory, orders, trailers and work.
- Troubleshoot WMS/WCS discrepancies.
- Analyze RF errors and determine their root cause.
- Support warehouse associates and supervisors.
- Monitor daily warehouse performance.
- Interpret operational dashboards and reports.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Support cycle counting and inventory accuracy.
- Understand wave planning and allocation.
- Troubleshoot pick shortages.
- Understand packout, VAS and shipping flows.
- Analyze trailer and dock performance.
- Identify warehouse storage optimization opportunities.
- Evaluate customer requests against system capabilities.
- Document functional requirements.
- Support IT projects and SDLC activities.
- Participate in customer/internal requirements meetings.
- Assist with RFQ analysis involving software and hardware.
- Prepare operational risk assessments and FMEAs.
- Communicate technical issues to IT, operations and vendors.
- Develop repeatable solutions rather than one-time fixes.
THE SOLUTIONS ANALYST MINDSET
A warehouse associate asks:
“How do I complete this task?”
A supervisor asks:
“Why isn’t this work getting completed?”
A Solutions Analyst asks:
“What process, configuration, data, integration, device, automation or user behavior is preventing the work from being completed?”
The Solutions Analyst must learn to move from:
SYMPTOM → EVIDENCE → ROOT CAUSE → SOLUTION → VALIDATION → PREVENTION
Example:
Symptom
RF user receives:
INVALID LOCATION
Basic response
“Try another location.”
Solutions Analyst response
- Identify the LPN.
- Identify the SKU.
- Identify the suggested location.
- Verify the location in WMS.
- Determine why WMS selected the location.
- Check location status.
- Check item/location compatibility.
- Check capacity.
- Check inventory status.
- Check task status.
- Determine whether the RF transaction is valid.
- Determine whether configuration is incorrect.
- Determine whether master data is incorrect.
- Correct the underlying issue.
- Retest the transaction.
- Document the resolution.
That difference defines the Solutions Analyst role.
THE FIVE-LAYER WAREHOUSE TECHNOLOGY MODEL
Every troubleshooting investigation should begin by identifying which layer is failing.
Layer 1 — Physical Operation
Examples:
- Pallet
- Carton
- LPN
- Forklift
- Conveyor
- ASRS
- Trailer
- Door
- Location
- Dock
- Staging lane
Layer 2 — RF Execution
Android Velocity RF scanner:
- Menu
- Scan
- Prompt
- Quantity
- LPN
- Location
- Confirmation
- Error message
Layer 3 — Blue Yonder WMS
Examples:
- Inventory
- Orders
- Tasks
- Waves
- Allocation
- Receiving
- Putaway
- Picking
- Packing
- Shipping
- Trailer management
Layer 4 — WCS / Automation
Examples:
- Conveyor
- Sortation
- ASRS
- PLC communication
- Scanner
- Divert
- Induction
- Automated storage
- Automated retrieval
Layer 5 — Enterprise / Integration Systems
Examples:
- SAP
- JDA
- TMS
- Carrier systems
- Customer systems
- EDI
- APIs
- Interfaces
- Reporting systems
Analyst Rule
Never assume a WMS problem is actually a WMS problem.
A failure can originate in any of the five layers.
